AGR - P1™

AGR PSS, a division of the AGR Group, is a leading provider of essential services and technologies such as well management, consultancy and field management to the international oil & gas industry.

AGR PSS had developed a successful software application called P1™ which is used to analyse and manage the risks/opportunities encountered during the construction of wells. When AGR PSS decided a major up-grade to P1™ was required they outsourced the upgrade to a company based overseas. As AGR PSS became increasingly unhappy with the quality of work and costs involved in the development of P1™ they looked for a company closer to home to take over the future development of the system.

AGR PSS initially approached Codify to carry out a technical appraisal of the system to allow them to get an overview of what had been developed so far. Following this technical appraisal, Codify were invited to take over the development of P1™ and have since completed a technical re-write, redeveloped the engine behind the software and added a number of new features including a new Monte-Carlo engine that increased the simulation speeds 100 fold.

The re-write has resulted in a more stable system that is fast, self-contained and can be used on different platforms. P1™ is also certified for Microsoft Vista assuring customers of the products install/uninstall behaviour, overall reliability and adherence to security policies. Codify have also developed a licensing system for P1™ which allows AGR PSS to sell different versions of the product to best suit their customers' needs.

P1™ is used by drilling engineers to improve well construction performance and evaluate the options in the event of a problem. It is used from the planning stage right through to the execution stage, and allows engineers to assess all possible outcomes and plan accordingly. This results in the customer achieving a greater return on their investment as Chris Ferrier, Director of AGR PSS explains, "P1™ works by taking a number of inputs entered by the engineer and then performing calculations to predict possible outcomes. To ensure the accuracy of the software, P1™ has been vetted by a number of well known statisticians who independently checked and verified the calculations performed."

Chris Ferrier continues, "P1™ is used internally by AGR PSS and by over 30 well known oil and gas companies worldwide to understand and manage the challenges of oil and gas well construction. One of our clients has improved budgetary costing and delivered the well construction portfolio to within 2.5% of plan using P1™."

He adds, "Four of the top oil and gas companies in the world now use the P1™ software and are seeing it as an invaluable part of their planning process. The software is solid, engineers like using it and it is becoming a standard tool in the workplace."
