Codify Christmas Party 2015

by Emma

There was a full house at Codify HQ for the Christmas celebrations on Friday. As we gathered in the boardroom there was delight at the stash of presents from Secret Santa under the tree, and the air was filled with anticipation for the Christmas Challenge and the unknown contents of our gifts.

Emma and Dawn doubled up as Santa's elves and distributed the presents - from chocolates and mugs, to fake beards and Christmassy clothing. There was even a laser mouth light… who knew those existed?!

Next it was on to the Christmas Challenge. Julia compiled an impressive range of crafty goodies; card, tinsel, baubles, cotton wool, fabric, crepe paper, ribbon, glitter, pens etc. covered the boardroom table. Teams were tasked with designing a festive interactive scene, similar to what you might find at a fairground, with holes for faces.

There was an eclectic mix of results and a range of artistic skills applied. A few "abstract" numbers, a couple featuring baby Jesus, and classic Santas were soon unveiled. Some took it rather more seriously than others, getting into the festive spirit and adorning themselves with props to add to the festive spirit.

Each team voted for their favourite, and winning 50% of the votes with their "Sons of Anarchy Santa" interpretation congratulations went to Mikko, Kiki, Natasha and Emma. They won a selection box each and £250 to donate to a charity of their choice.

Their chosen charity was Genesis Research Trust - a group that raises money for the largest UK-based collection of scientists and clinicians researching the causes and cures for conditions that affect the health of women and babies.

After all that excitement we headed to our traditional Christmas haunt, the Lairhillock Inn at Netherley, near Stonehaven. Once again, we were made to feel very welcome and were well looked after - the meal was delicious and the service was excellent. There was lots of hilarity as everyone let their hair down and got rather merry… It was a fantastic Christmas celebration, and enjoyed by all!
